Like them very much. I debated whether 205 tires on the Tronics would be too narrow, but after the horrible winter we had last year in Buffalo, I decided to try 205s. I ve always driven on 225s since my MKIV R32, so I m curious if there will be a noticeable difference. Do you have a photo of your car with these wheels mounted.
I m still waiting for my car to arrive. Interested in seeing what the car will look like in the winter setup. I m not sure if 205w tires will help you drive over houses and 15 snow drifts. I m going the same route. DMC on here calls them Pizza Cutters. I see your in ATL as well, and wondering if you re willing to share which dealer you bought from. 100 under MSRP each is a good deal.
It appears the Tronics Dijons come in both 6 and 7 widths if you want to run a wider tire on those. Anyone running 18s with all seasons. I m thinking about doing that for general purpose and occasional drives to Tahoe if it ever snows again. Might garage the 19s and save them for summer. IMO there are only 2 four seasons tires that are truly four seasons - i. works well on snow and ice but still iq option usd/brl the ability to survive and perform in hot weather - Goodyear Tripletred and Nokian.
Unfortunately Tripletred does not come in 225 40-18. That leaves you Nokian as the only choice. I order DAP too, but I am not as confident when mine will arrive. The current offer from Nokian is called Weatherproof. Can t go wrong with it. Last edited by blah blah; 09-09-2015 at 04 25 PM. What is the opinion on Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 225 40R18 on O. Leggera HLT 18x8 Bright Race Grey for Massachusetts.
I m looking at the enkeis that are 19lbs but that s the same tire and size. I would like to get the Oz. But tbh I don t want to run wheels that nice in the winter. select current car and it will tell you the smallest wheel tire combo that work. But I will soon enough. Will post when I do. That s a very nice looking original wheel.
Has a grown-up look to it. Interestingly, Tire Rack picked 17x7. 5 225 for the R with my postal code. Last edited by elidirsweep; 09-10-2015 at 09 20 AM. the have - sizes what are available that fit your car. I have 17 VW Goals for mine and a set of Michelin Xice3 s purchased and waiting at their warehouse until early October. I went with 205 50 17s as they cut through the snow a bit better.
225 45 17s are OEM sizes with a low profile tire. They should provide ample sidewall protection as wel. Theoretically 225 45-17 and 205 50-17 have basically the same sidewall height, differ only by 1 mm. 225 mm X 45 101. 3 mm 205 mm X 50 102. 205 cuts deeper into snow but they also look lost in the wheel wells.
My money is with 225 45-17 ice tires because living in a city, ice is more of a problem. It is more effective only if you constantly drive in snow. I m going with a 17x7 wheel and 215 50x17 tyres. This gives the same diameter as the iq option usd/brl 235 35x19 setup or my 235 40x18 summer setupplus it doesn t drop the ride height 5mm like the 225 45 setup will.
I don t want to lose any ride height in winter. You can still get Nokian WRG3 although it seems to have been replaced by Weatherproof in Europe. Volkswagen created the Golf GTD to appeal to buyers that want the looks and most of the performance of the Golf GTIbut with much cheaper running costs. Used Volkswagen Golf GTD 2013-2020 deals. Sharp looks Class-leading interior Very economical.
What s not so good. Volkswagen Golf GTD 2013-2020 what would you like to read next. Not as fun to drive as the GTI Sat-nav costs extra Rivals are cheaper. Like the rest of the VW Golf range, the GTD received some aesthetic changes in early 2017 namely some slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers, plus standard-fit LED head and tail lights. From the outside, it takes the form of an ever-so-slightly toned-down GTI, it gets a body kit, with a ground-hugging front bumper and roof-mounted spoiler; big alloy wheels and twin exhaust pipes.
The subtle GTD badge in the grille is the only obvious clue that this fast hatchback is diesel powered. Much the same is true on the inside, where the GTD gets the GTI s trademark tartan interior trim albeit in a subtle shade of grey and a racy-looking flat-bottomed steering wheel. The same excellent quality which sets the Golf above its rivals is there for all to see.
While it may look very similar to the GTI, the GTD can t offer the same thrills. It s all about restrained performance, something the 181hp, 2. 0-litre diesel engine serves up in spades. It surges forward with little sign of the raucous enthusiasm of its petrol counterpart. Obviously, the big win it scores over the GTI is fuel economy the GTD can touch 70mpg; the GTI just 50.
The Volkswagen Golf GTD is designed to offer much of the fun of the GTI but with lower running costs. Sports suspension, front and rear parking sensors, powerful Xenon headlights and two-zone climate control all come fitted as standard, and you can get it with Volkswagen s huge 9. 2-inch Discover Pro sat-nav infotainment system. Whether you should buy a Golf GTD depends on what you re buying it for. If you want a smart, fast hatchback that is cheap to run then it s a great car if not very involving to drive.
The Volkswagen Golf GTD is no different to a standard Golf hatchback, so it has room for four adults and a decent boot, although you can find even bigger alternatives. Passenger space. Room for passengers is good in the front iq option usd/brl the back of the GTD and there are lots of adjustments to help the driver find a comfortable position.
The seats are comfortable and supportive in corners. Yes, it s true that the Golf isn t the biggest car of its type, but it still has enough room to take a baby buggy or a set of golf clubs. It s not surprising that the evergreen Golf has the storage areas figured out. The boot is the same size as the regular Golf, meaning you get 380 litres with the seats up and 1,270 when they are flat on the floor. There is a huge number of cubby holes in many shapes and sizes so you have a place to put your phone and a handy pullout tray below the passenger seat to hide valuables away from prying eyes.
That is the same size boot as in the Audi A3 Sportback and bigger than those in the Ford Focus ST and Renault Megane Renaultsport. If you come to the GTD expecting the sporty, exciting handling of the Golf GTI then you might be a little disappointed. Cheaper to run than a GTI at the cost of less exciting engine note and a duller drive. Performance and Economy. The Golf GTD only comes with one engine, and that s a punchy 2.
0-litre diesel with 181hp. It s the diesel s grunt at low revs that you ll first notice when you accelerate hard, and the acceleration will raise a grin. It ll propel the GTD from a standstill to 62mph in 7. 9 seconds and on to 141mph. The trouble is, it doesn t encourage you to wring it s neck like the 2. 0-litre petrol in the GTI. For two reasons, one it doesn t sound anything like as nice as the admittedly electrically enhanced petrol and, two it s nowhere near as keen to rev, with full power hitting at 3,500rpm rather than the 4,700rpm the GTI requires.
On the other hand, the GTD plays the role of a relaxed, fast cruiser extremely well. It can overtake slow-moving traffic easily and deliver surging performance without the associated engine noise. Most people go for the more-expensive DSG with no clutch to operate, it s perfect for town driving and the quick changes mean there s no loss of performance.
The manual, of course, lets you choose exactly what gear you want at any given moment something that will always appeal to enthusiasts who want complete control. And there s a lot for enthusiasts to like about the way the GTD handles. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. With lowered suspension and wide tyres wrapped around 18-inch alloy wheels, there s very little body roll in corners and plenty of grip so you can dive into bends at speed, confident that the sporty Golf isn t going to let go.
The weighty diesel engine gives the GTD a nose-heavy feel that s lacking from the GTI, so it doesn t have quite the same light, surefooted feel as that car. And you also notice a difference powering out of corners where the GTD s sizeable torque 280Ib ft available from just 1,750rpm can light up the front tyres with little effort, especially in the wet.
Driven sensibly, though, the GTD makes for a calm and collected cruiser, with excellent high-speed refinement and suspension that remains calm and collected on all but the worst bumpy country roads. Volkswagen Golf GTD 2013-2020 Review. An option worth considering is Dynamic Chassis control, which allows you to adjust the suspension s stiffness depending on your mood, or the road you re tackling.
Choosing from Sport, Comfort or Normal it effectively iq option usd/brl you can switch between nailed-down handling or a cosseting ride. What s it like inside. The Golf GTD like the GTI and R gets the best versions of the Mk7 Golf s interior, so you ll struggle to find a nicer place to sit. Reviews of similar cars. Looking for similar cars in the Volkswagen range. It s not exactly cheap but it is capable of delivering fun on a B-road, as well as slogging up and down motorways at a decent lick.
The diesel hot hatch might not be long for this world, but the facelifted VW Golf GTD makes an impressive all-rounder. The low CO2 emissions could make it an appealing company car choice for the keen driver, too. And all the while, it has the everyday usability of a Golf, making it a strong all-rounder. British customers love a hot hatchback - but our taxation and company car rules are still weighted towards diesel, so it s no surprise that the Volkswagen Golf GTD has been one of the most popular variants in the model s line-up.
Now, though, it s been updated to bring it in line with the mid-life facelift seen on the rest of the Golf range, which will take this seventh generation model through to 2020. 0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel producing 181bhp and 380Nm of torque. Power drives the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. The DSG option has changed, though, so the dual-clutch transmission tested here is now a seven-speed unit instead of the old six-speeder.
More reviews for Golf GTD Hatchback. SEAT Leon vs Volkswagen Golf vs Ford Focus BMW 1 Series vs Mercedes A-Class vs Volkswagen Golf. Volkswagen Golf review Volkswagen Golf R review Volkswagen Golf 2012 - 2019 review. New Volkswagen Golf 2020 UK review New Volkswagen Golf TDI review New Volkswagen Golf R Mountune M52 2019 review. On paper, the numbers are pretty impressive; the three-door GTD with the DSG gearbox can crack 0-62mph in 7.
4 seconds and a top speed of 143mph - while delivering combined fuel economy of 57. New Volkswagen Golf GTD facelift 2017 review. 6mpg and CO2 emissions of 129g km. The powertrain and chassis package on the latest GTD is mostly unchanged - so it still gets a 2. There s even a new BlueLine version with smaller 17-inch wheels, capable of just 122g km. That s a healthy efficiency advantage over the petrol-powered GTI - worth noting if you re considering one of these faster Golfs as your next company car.
There are new 18-inch alloy wheels, while sports suspension also helps justify the GT badge. You get dual-zone air-con, plus the 12-inch Active Info Display digital dials, sports seats, and LED headlights to match the LED tail-lights that are now fitted to every Golf. There are significant upgrades to the infotainment system, too, with a Discover Navigation set-up that features an eight-inch touch-screen. The rest iq option usd/brl the GTD package falls into line with other facelfited Golfs, getting the same new bumpers and headlights while delivering some of the revised range s higher-end features as standard.
It also incorporates Car-Net, which offers real-time information on everything from car park charges to fuel prices at nearby filling stations. In many ways, we prefer Discover Navigation to the more expensive optional Discover Navigation Pro, because while the top spec unit s 9. 2-inch screen in crisper, it loses the shortcut buttons down the sides as well as the rotary switches that allow you to zoom in and out of the maps. On the road, the GTD delivers one of the new Golf s best driving experiences.
That s a good thing, because the prodigious torque on offer keeps the transmission on its toes, allowing you to make very rapid progress with remarkably little effort. Should you decide to take control, you can stick the DSG into manual mode and rev the engine out a bit more before shifting up with the steering wheel-mounted paddles.
The new dual-clutch gearbox s shifts feel a little bit quicker and noticeably smoother than before. Do this and you ll hear a fairly gruff engine note; acoustic engineering makes the GTD s sound about as appealing as a four-cylinder diesel can but it s never going to sound as pleasant as a turbocharged petrol motor. At least it calms down at a cruise, fading to a point where wind noise from the side mirrors and tyre roar easily drown it out. The chassis is more than up to the task, though; you can feel a little more weight over the nose but in general the combination of the stiffer suspension, reduced ride height and the XDS electronic differential system which brakes individual wheels in corners means the GTD is quick to respond to inputs in the twisty stuff.
Nicely weighted, accurate steering helps you to place the GTD upon corner entry, and even at speed it ll stay admirably flat thereafter. And while there is a little bit of trade-off in ride quality, there s just about enough compliance for it to remain comfortable on a long journey. It s a nicely judged compromise, in other words - precisely what the sister car to the GTI should offer.
The concept of a diesel hot hatch is surely on borrowed time, but the Golf GTD makes such a decent fist of it that it s hard not to find it charming. Volkswagen Golf Review. The VW Golf MK8 is an excellent family car that s easy to drive, spacious and well equipped. Its looks won t appeal to everyone, though, and some features are tricky to use.
Great choice of efficient engines Comfortable over bumps Latest tech is present and correct. Marmite front-end styling Infotainment can be fiddly No roomier than the old Golf. Volkswagen Golf what would you like to read next. The Volkswagen Golf is a family car icon, providing a reassuring blend of comfort and practicality for a reassuring price not as expensive as some, not as cheap as others.
As such, it does the rare thing of being an alternative to both posh and not-so pos family hatchbacks cars like the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra as well as the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class. Howeverone of the few divisive aspects of the new VW Golf is how it looks. From the back, this new model looks like a slightly edgier, more angular version of the car it replaces, but at the front, the low-slung bonnet and monobrow-like trim between the headlights look like they belong more on Bert from Sesame Street than on a classy family hatchback.
Step inside though, and the VW Golf s interior is much more prime-time than kid s TV. The slick dashboard is almost completely devoid of buttons and you get a pair of high-resolution digital displays instead of a central infotainment system and a set of analogue dials. It s not quite on a par with a 1 Series or A3 for quality, but it beats a Focus or Astra. While the Golf s screens make it dead easy to follow sat-nav directions and pair your phone which you can do using Android Auto or wirelessly through Apple CarPlaythe gesture controls aren t all that responsive and the touch-sensitive shortcuts to control the heating and ventilation take a bit of getting used to.
Despite overhauling all its onboard tech, VW hasn t changed much about the rest of the Golf s cabin. It comes with a similar number of soft materials to the old car and the front and rear seats are roomier than you get in a Mercedes A-Class, but not quite as spacious as those in a Ford Focus. The boot s the same size as in the old car too, so you ll have no trouble packing a few suitcases for a family weekend away. Friend asking you which new car to buy and struggling for an answer.

If long journeys are more your thing, you can get the VW Golf with an economical diesel engine, plus there s the option to ditch the standard manual gearbox for a DSG automatic instead. This can be a little jerky at slow speeds, but the high-tech driver-assistance systems make up for this on motorways where the VW Golf can accelerate, brake and steer for you.
The Golf feels pretty slick when you take control yourself, too. It s easy to manoeuvre in town, softens bumps well in town especially with adaptive suspension fitted in its comfiest setting and feels pretty nimble on a twisty backroad, too.
